about

Hello, everyone who may be reading this! This is Asher Kaperdon, here to talk about Hanran's theme.
But first a bit about Hanran, and what her deal is supposed to be. The theme of the Touhou Game Jam
5 was Myths and Legends, and although I approached with some intent of continueing about Torakuma
and the Suten-doji myth, Hanran fits more the Legend aspect. See, I'm from Massachusetts and we tend
to be obsessive about the American Revolution, especially seeing as we started it. As such, there is
great importance placed on the Legendary "Shot Heard Round the World". Now, who shot first at
Lexington has been the subject of back and forth debate since it has happend, first both sides blamed
the other as aggressor, then the US was thought to be because of supposed inexperience, but everyone
knows how to use their weapons who was on that field, then it may have been the British, because of
all the problems with the colony up to that point and got unearved, but even so, they would be aware
of what this may lead to and would try not to escalate anything that they already have. This continued,
even to this day. So, with the confusion about it, I made Hanran no Mori, lit. Rebel of the Forest/Wood,
and had her shoot the shot on accident on the US side, as that is probably the likly canditade. Which
leads to the Song's Name, "All Fun and Games till the Revolution Starts". The song starts out calm and
energetic, till the energy overtakes everything and it becomes chaos, much like peace to war. It's
nice that it ended up like that, because I composed the beat and Harmony first before adding the flute
melody. I'm not the greatest by any means, and it had a lot of disonance, but when it matches up, and
the harmony harshly answers the melody, it works I think. I made the main melody track a flute because
of how I originally heard the track of "Phantasmagoria", and heard a flute in their, between the FM.
And also, there is a lot of American revolutionary tunes that are suited for the flute, so I went with that.
I've extended this track to make it loop better in my opinion from the original, and it fades out when
the loop begins. It's a bit over five minutes, which suprised me, and is also why I didn't double up on
the loop. Anyway, that's the overall jist.
